WELCOME
PARENTS AND COACHES TO THE 2009 EVSRA SPRING SEASON!
EVSRA
MEANS SCHOLASTIC ROWING IN EASTERN VIRGINIA
For nearly a
decade the Eastern Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association has sponsored a full
schedule of regattas for high school aged men and women. In 2009, rowers from
seventeen member schools will participate in our sprint regattas. Each regatta features a full schedule of
sweep events for men’s, women’s and mixed 4+ and 8+ boats. We welcome
lightweight entries and all skill levels. Our sculling program features men’s
and women’s races for singles, doubles and quads.
Seventeen
schools belong to EVSRA (schools are listed above). Most of the member schools are located in
Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.
Member schools outside of the immediate area come from Virginia’s
Eastern Shore, Tappahannock, Richmond and Charlottesville.
OUR
VENUE
EVSRA’s principal race venue is Lake Whitehurst at the Norfolk Botanical
Garden (NBG) norfolkbotanicalgarden.org/home.
This season, the
Independent School Regatta will be held in Richmond at the Robious Landing
Facility on the James River.
Individual
garden membership costs $45 for one year or $80 for two years and includes discounts
in the garden shop and café, at the annual plant sale, classes and workshops,
subscriptions to Bloom! and GROW, and reduced or free admission at 230 other botanical
gardens. Family membership costs $75 for
one year or $125 for two years and includes all the same benefits for a family
of 6. For more information on garden
membership, call Ray Davis at 757-441-5830 x 316 or email at membership@nbgs.org.

SUPPORT
FOR OUR REGATTAS
EVSRA
is a volunteer organization and each local member school provides the
volunteers for the regattas. Volunteers
are crucial to the regattas. Without a
strong availability of volunteers, the regattas could not be held. Please contact your crew program’s parent
representative if you are interested in volunteering. You may also sign-up to volunteer at the
Regatta Office on regatta day.
2nd Annual EVSRA Mock
Regatta: What
a perfect opportunity to learn about the various activities required to support
regattas. These activities
include helping crews to launch and recover their boats, aligning boats at
the start line, recording results at the finish line, driving a launch boat
with the Regatta Officials. Please join
us at the EVSRA Mock Regatta on Saturday, March 14, 9:00 AM. We’ll be meeting at the Norfolk Botanical
Garden’s Visitor Center.
